About Jerome
Jerome Alston was born on Sunday, February 16, 1964. He grew up in the Berkley area of Norfolk Virginia as the oldest of 4 children. His siblings are Anthony, Phillip and DeAndra. Jerome was a 1982 graduate of Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk. After graduation Jerome and several of his hometown friends matriculated through Virginia State University (c/o 1988) in Petersburg.
He had a career ranging from his first few jobs at Orkin, Pizza Hut on Battlefield Blvd and Bank of America in downtown Norfolk. He changed paths and focused more on helping the youth. He became a teacher at Madison Alternative Center and more recently Cradock Middle School, where his Science class was the only one to score 100% on their Standards of Learning (SOL) tests.
Along with Virginia State, Jerome also attended Old Dominion University, took classes at James Madison and recently completed a certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies at Cambridge College in Chesapeake to assist in his plans to become a school administrator.
Jerome was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Spring ’89 Gamma Xi Chapter but is now in Omega Chapter. He became a Mason in 1991 and held the Degree of Master Mason. Jerome leaves to cherish his life his two daughters.
He was a science teacher and volleyball coach at Craddock Middle School, Portsmouth, VA.
He was also a mentor to young men and started the program “Men of Distinction”.
Jerome’s unfortunate passing was on December 18, 2012 due to asthma related complications.
